Synopsis

The nineteenth century dictates its rules with a cold, ruthless hand. In the wake of long, grueling wars, one of the era’s most eligible bachelors returns to the city. Count Sheremetyev, a noble aristocrat, instantly becomes the prime target of ambitious mothers desperate to marry off their daughters.

However, Kolya’s hands are tied by the brutal terms of his inheritance. According to his family’s will, he must officially marry within a single year; otherwise, a vast fortune will slip through his fingers. Under this immense pressure, his manor turns into an endless parade of prospective brides—a veritable matchmaking assembly line.

Meanwhile, a major drama unfolds beneath the roof of another family, one that society used to hold in high regard. Ilya, an incurable gambler, hits rock bottom after losing every last bit of the family’s wealth at the tables. His wife, Lena, is devastated over their children’s future, yet she desperately tries to keep up appearances and salvage what is left of their social standing. But the mounting debts bring with them the looming threat of debtor's prison and absolute ruin.

To save her family from this dead end, their brave daughter Anya steps forward. In her desperation, the young woman decides to knock on the door of her father’s primary creditor to beg for mercy. Hoping she can soften the heart of this headstrong nobleman—a hardened, war-torn soldier—she is instead caught off guard by a shocking proposition. The cynical, merciless creditor is willing to tear up all the debt notes in a single stroke, but on one condition: she must become his personal maid.

As a proud noblewoman, Anya is forced to swallow her pride to shield her family from destitution and disgrace. She puts on the servant’s apron and crosses the threshold of that foreign manor—the very house where an army of women vying for the master's heart is lining up at the door. Initially, the dynamic between the master and his new maid is fueled entirely by resentment and friction. The gentleman looks for any excuse to find fault and needle her, while the young woman refuses to hold her tongue, giving as good as she gets.

Yet, living under the same roof slowly begins to dismantle the insurmountable walls between them. Anya realizes that behind his arrogant, hardened mask hides a wounded soul, deeply weary of high society's phoniness and hypocrisy. Kolya, on the other hand, sees that this fierce maid is far wiser than she appears, possessing an authenticity that is hard to find in their artificial world. Thus, the mutual animosity gradually gives way to an undeniable, pure, and untainted love.

But is their own stubbornness the only obstacle standing in the way of their intertwined hearts? Will they be able to defy the yawning chasm between their stations, break the ruthless social codes of the era, and risk everything for happiness?
